Oyster Bay
By lirunning.com - As far as I am concerned, Oyster Bay is one of the most beautiful areas on Long Island, and there are several routes that I could recommend that start and finish at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay. However, perhaps the best route is a 10 kilometer run that starts at Roosevelt Park, heads east on Audrey Avenue past the Gazebo and Town Hall (through downtown Oyster Bay). Go straight across South Street in downtown Oyster Bay, where Audrey Avenue becomes East Main Street. Go about 1.5 miles on East Main Street to the Theodore Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary, and turn left onto Cove Neck Road. As you proceed up Cove Neck Road, you will have a wonderful view of Oyster Bay harbor on your left (spectacular at or near sundown). Make a right turn up (and the operative word is very much "up") Sagamore Hill, go around the circle at Teddy Roosevelt's front door, and then go back down the hill and reverse your steps back to Roosevelt Park. This run is scenic, challenging but not ridiculously so, and gives you a great look at what Oyster Bay is all about.
