A couple of miles from the University Village, on the right side along Sand Point Way, there is the small and quiet Warren G. Magnuson Park. Starting from the boat ramp, the main loop is approximately one mile of paved path, with grass on one side and Lake Washington on the other. There are no trees to offer shadow, so if you run on a sunny day make sure to wear a hat. Not to miss, on the left side of the park is the incredible "Fin Project", an artwork by John T. Young realized using diving plane fins from decommissioned U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. "It is about peace, turning weapons into art" - I am quoting from the bronze plaque - "It also may remind the viewer of the dorsal fins of a pod of orca whales". These twentytwo huge submarine fins (each one listing the name of the submarine, the name of an orca whale in the Puget Sound pods and the name of the private donors who contributed to the installation) are scattered on a vast field, so it is also possible to experience a short but emotional run right in between a wonderful piece of art.
